Welcome to First Church!
Celebrating 190 Years of Faith, Hope, and Love

We’re so glad you’re thinking about visiting!
At Independence First United Methodist Church, we’ve been growing in faith and sharing God’s love with the community for 190 years — and there’s always room for you in the story.
We know visiting a new church can feel overwhelming, so we want to make it easy and help you feel right at home. Here are some quick answers to questions you might have before your first visit!

We Are Happy You Are Here!
Q & A
  • What is it like?

Our worship is welcoming, spirit-filled, and a little bit like coming home.
Each Sunday, you’ll experience heartfelt music, inspiring messages, and a warm community where real life meets real faith. We’re proud to continue a 190-year tradition of offering hope, joy, and a place to belong — and we can’t wait for you to be part of it.

  • What about my kids?

We love kids at Independence First UMC!
During worship, children are invited up for a fun and meaningful Children’s Moment, and nursery care is available for the littlest ones. Our Starshine Preschool and Sunday School programs offer safe, joyful spaces where kids can learn about God’s love from trusted, caring teachers.
Families have always been the heart of our 190 years of ministry, and we’re excited to welcome yours.

  • Where do I park?

Parking is simple and stress-free!
We have a large lot right next to the church building, with accessible spaces near the main entrance and around the corner. There are three entrance doors you can use — from Truman Road, Maple Street, and Spring Street.
👉 If you need assistance or prefer to avoid stairs, we recommend not parking on Maple Street (it requires using stairs). Instead, use the middle door on Truman Road, where an elevator is available to make things easy.
Our greeters will be ready to welcome you and guide you wherever you need to go!

  • What do I wear?

Wear what makes you feel comfortable!
Some people dress up, some dress casual — jeans, sneakers, dresses, or ties — it’s all good. We believe God cares about your heart, not your outfit.
As we celebrate 190 years of ministry, the most important thing is simply that you're here!

  • How can I get connected?

We’d love to get to know you!
You can stop by our welcome center after worship to meet friendly faces, or fill out a Connection Card online or in person. Whether it’s joining a small group, getting involved in service projects, singing in the choir, or simply learning more, there’s a place for you at Independence First.
190 years have taught us one thing: the church is stronger when we grow together. Come be part of what God is doing next!
